J.Crew Warehouse Sale

Every year, maybe twice a year my mom and I drive about two hours to attend the J.Crew warehouse sale. The sale happens in Lynchburg Virginia and it's a huge warehouse, filled with brown cardboard boxes of all J.Crew items. I cannot even explain the amazing deals you get. They have sweaters for $15, shirts for $10, shoes for $25, jackets for $35 and it is all so worth the drive.
Each time I go I am never disappointed because there is so much to pick from. I always walk away with neutral items. I get sweaters that will last, minnie pants, and jackets.

Drum roll please for the purchase of the decade...

A Barbour jacket that I am never taking off.
Have you ever been a warehouse sale?

Interview with Belles in Bows

If you are on Instagram or just web search for new blogs you have probably come across Belles in Bows. If not, stop reading this post and go check out her blog. You will fall in love with everything she does. From her soft smile to her effortless preppy style.

Isn't she lovely?
I had the pleasure of interviewing her and even over a few e-mails I could tell she's of the sweetest people ever.

1. What inspired you to blog, and what keeps you going? I started my Instagram about six months before I ever got a blog. Through Instagram I was given a soft introduction to the blogging world and thought it was something I would like to do! It was a nice distraction from my move last summer and I thought that it was only going to last a few short months. Turns out I fell in love with not only blogging, but the community in its entirety! I am motivated by my love of words and photographs as well as my truly supportive and uplifting followers!

2. What is your favorite thing about blogging if it isn't different from what keeps you going? My favorite thing about blogging is the freedom to write whatever I choose. It's such an empowering thing to write without inhibitions and press "post" without having to have it edited and checked and critiqued by other people. Because of this, I feel it is a very accurate reflection of who I am and what I believe.

3. What is one thing you have learned about yourself from blogging. I have learned that sometimes I am so worried about posting things people like that I lose myself. Because of this initial discovery and fear I feel as if I have become acutely aware of myself as a person and blogger and therefore my voice has become very genuine.

4. What is your favorite item in your closet? Probably one of my Lilly shift dresses, they always make me feel like a million bucks!

5. One fashion trend you wish would go away? FESTIVAL FASHION. Seriously, I don't understand why you would want to show so much skin...crop tops, daisy dukes, and fringe are really unappealing to me.

6. Something you have learned from moving around? (I am moving this summer for the first time in 16 years and it's crazy. Don't know how you do it) You need to learn to love yourself because sometimes that's all you have. I had a lot of self-esteem issues before and I just learned that I needed to embrace myself because you are beautifully and wonderfully made. If you don't love yourself it can be really hard to make friends. Kind of piggybacking on that is the importance of staying true to yourself. When you move around so much it can be tempting to try and assimilate to make friends, etc. But I cannot stress the importance of being you no matter what.

7. What is some advice you can give people starting a blog? Keep at it. I think that blogging can feel very lonely at the start. It took me a year to develop the follower base I have now...In order for people to want to follow along with you, you need to be posting consistently strong content. I really discourage fluffy filler posts. Just keep on doing your thing and people will notice and want to join in!xx, Bess

Thank you again Bess!

A Day in Carytown

In the summer my days are free so I'm always looking for things to do. I love getting out and enjoying the warm weather. About 20 minutes away from my neighborhood is a little town called Carytown. It is filled with many different restaurants, shops, and also holds the French Film Festival every year. On the street is a store named Bygone's and it sells vintage items. Many different dresses, swimsuits and jewlery from the 1920's-1960's. It's mine and Haley's favorite spot and we both just enjoy the atmosphere of Carytown as a whole.

Don't for get to...

One thing I do differently when picking an outfit is that I pick my accessories before my clothes. From big statement earrings, to chunky necklaces, stacking rings and bracelets, I love to accessorize. The thing about it all is that you can have you accessories reflect how you feel that day. When I want to be simplistic I put on pearl earrings and my silver adoption bracelet. But when I want all eyes on me I have a necklace that will turn heads.
Over the years I have gathered some amazing pieces and have a few photos to share.
This was a Christmas gift from an old friend.

Kiel James Patrick
Still think I hit a home run with this necklace for prom. I searched high and low for it on many different sites and then, as always, it was Ebay for a GREAT price. I wore it with a black dress because I wanted it to be the focal point of what I was wearing.

Remember not to be too much though. If you have a bold necklace on, don't have bold earrings. Make one accessory your focal point.

Graduation

Still hasn't hit me I've graduated from high school but it happened.
Congratulations to all the other 2014 graduates.

Stripes

Basically if it has stripes it's hanging in my closet. I love stripes, and it is my favorite pattern. Stripes are the most basic pattern you could ever do. Nautical navy and white, or fun colors I feel like you can't go wrong.

What do you think of stripes?

Lilly Pulitzer; Summer

One thing I love about the warmer weather is that I can wear dresses almost everyday. Another thing I love about warmer weather are Lilly dresses. Lilly and I did not have love at first sight moment. It took me at least a few times in the store, and also lusting over my sister's collection to buy my first Lilly dress. After one, I was hooked.
Today I headed to the Pink Palm, a Lilly Pulitzer shop in Richmond, and fell in love with almost everything. Of course I tried on the dress Sarah wore, and even ended up buying it. Shop the skirt too.
I might have to head back for this skirt or this skort.

What are you favorite items from the 2014 summer collection?
